Yesterday, while attending a local gun show, I stopped at one booth that sold only books. Almost every book he had dealt with guns and shooting but he had a small pile of books dealing with coins and treasure hunting, every book marked $15. Mostly from the 60's and 70's , he told me that he'd picked them all up at an estate sale. While they were mostly old and outdated and definitely not worth the $15 price tag he had on them, I noticed that he had one gem among the pile. It was Karl von Mueller's " The Treasure Hunter's Manual" sixth edition. Published in 1962. Second printing. This is the old one which has a cartoon figure of a man sitting on a stump holding a map on the cover. Knowing that this author is highly collectable in treasure hunting circles, I gave him his $15 and left without saying anything. When I got home I looked at one of the web sites that sells used books and this exact same book was selling for $100. Not that I plan on selling it anytime soon, but it's nice to know that sometimes when you have knowledge about certain things you can make it pay off for you down the road.
