Gun Part???

I found this today in an area where I found a bunch of shotgun shells. I'm wondering if this could be a part off of an old gun? It looks old to me but I don't really know. I don't know what it is made out of either...maybe brass or pewter? I do know that it doesn't stick to a magnet. Thanks for your time.
