gun gurus...please help....n/z mid 1800s

Hi from the land of the long white cloud....I would love your id on these if possible....found at an old constabulary site that was manned around the 1869 till about 1878....I dug the trigger guard that was about 6" deep..first look i thought old enfeild and may well be but the angle of the tangs!!! wouldnt stack up unless bent I suppose...also my learned freinds..I dug an unusual bullett close by ..it is about a 1 and 1/4" long and half an inch in diam (.50) and solid, unlike the enfeilds I normally dig at .577".

could the t/guard be of an old adams that they used here ? would appreciate your thoughts on these...thanks for your time and take care all ...

You are assuming that the trigger guard is not bent. Might want to look at the shape of the "hole" where the trigger was and think on it.

yes, have thought on that but wanted thoughts from the members as it dosent seem as though it has been bent ..maybe it has....thanks

Just a question about the third picture where you are comparing your trigger guard to what looks like an old english rifle, in fact if it is, what I see in the pic is exactly like mine down to the checkering on the stock that I keep on the mantel. My was made in 1800 to 1900 from what others have told me.

Your find looks like a trigger guard for a pistol unless it is bent.

I have an old Savage .410 single shot shotgun I got when I was a kid and the trigger guard looks almost identical to that one. I do think it's bent just a bit. I'd have to place them side by side to tell however. Monty

Boil it in water, then you can bend it into whatever gun ya want . I notice in the area where it may be bent, some of the green patina is missing. So it may in fact be bent just enough to throw ya off....NGE

Monty, in the first pic you can see one hole in the rear part, but front hole must be broken off.......NGE

Sometimes the front mounting point was slipped into a notch that would hold it as long as the rear screw was tight. I really don't know. Monty
