Gun butt plate?

I wasn't sure if I'm right about this being a butt plate and wanted more eyes on it what you all think? I also found a old ring and round ball along with a flat button in that area.. The plate is brass and you can't bend it by hand unless you gave it your all

Agree with DC - Trade Gun butt plates were often nailed in place. This one is from a Northwest Trade Gun. And Indiana Territory was part of that region at the right time.

I'd say part of a butt plate off and Indian Trade Musket.
