I dug this yesterday in an area behind an old house where my mister found a breastplate and a friend of ours dug a puppy paw belt buckle and I dug a round ball. I know I have seen Enfield butt plates that are L shaped but could this have come from another type of rifle used in the CW? It is roughly four inches long and has some slight rust on it.
It curves slightly upwards like I have seen other butt plates.

That is a gun butt plate. I think it's civil war era considering where you found it but I'm not sure.

Yeah I'm not sure either since it isn't the classic L shape. Maybe one of the experts will weigh in.

Congrats! It is definitely a steel butt plate from a rifle. I don't think it is Civil War related but I could be wrong as it appears to be a butt plate off of a Winchester Rifle.
