Hi all. This is my first time to post on here. My dad, Old River, came to see me this weekend and went garage saling with me. I found a couple of things that he wanted me to post on here. I found two books, one dated 1887 and another circa 1880's. The one dated 1887 is The Marble Faun by Nathaniel Hawthorne, not a first edition, and has the owner's name and date written inside. It also has tissue paper between the illustration and Title Page. The other didn't have any dates printed in it, but had an introduction with the date. It also has tissue paper next to the illustration in it, and has a folded up Time Magazine page dated December 1935 in it that was apparently being used as a bookmark. I paid .50 cents each for them. I also found a bottle that looks to be fairly old. It is 8 inches tall and has the writing RE UMBERTO BRAND OLIVE OIL on it. I like to put bottles in my kitchen window and paid a dollar for it. I tried to find information on these items and didn't really find a whole lot that would help me. I'll be heading to dad's for Thanksgiving this weekend and plan on tearing up that Texas Republic site with him!!! With any luck, we'll find some more cool stuff to add his collection of finds!

Welcome to "the family"  ;D...

Those are some great old books you picked up. Check out this site for an idea of what they're worth. When you hit search the first time - refine your search and start with "most expensive" first. I can tell you that the "Tom Brown" book should at least be in the range of forty bucks - possibly more depending on the age/condition and the publisher. Good luck and keep us posted!

Forgot to post the first time - sorry...

If I come down for Thanksgiving can I join you at the Texas Republic site. lol

Good luck...I hope you find lots of keepers.

I told you this is a great site. Really a nice bunch of folks here.

Welcome to T-Net, YR!!

Looks like some great stuff there! That old bottle is great.

Funny, I started detecting for coins, but now I get a big thrill out of finding an intact old bottle in the woods, too.

Thank you all for making me feel so welcomed. You're right dad! See you probably tomorrow evening! :tongue3:

Can't help on the items, but welcome from the UK :icon_sunny:

Went out today. Found one wheat penny, still trying to figure out the date. Also found a bunch of junk.
