✅ SOLVED Grommet or ?

Not sure what this is. The dark area is soft, maybe old leather? I've included a 16ga Winchester Repeater headstamp that I found in the same area as a size reference. This area contains a few old late 1800 home sites.

Looks like a copper rivet, probably wqs holding two pieces of leather together.

For sure a rivet. I usually find those around other horse tack stuff.
