I found this griffin back in 1996 in my back yard in virginia. I am looking to find out if anyone know what Era or what it could have been to.

Well, time to put foot in mouth. Due to the construction I'd say it's 18th century. What it RESEMBLES is the belt plate of the British 3rd Regiment of Foot which served during the Revolution in the south. I saw a guy dig one of their belt plates once - almost died right then and there - near Charleston. That plate has a dragon motif on it, but your griffin and that dragon look like they're cousins. Something for you to research.

The plate is pictured in Don Troini's book on the uniform buttons and plates of the American Revolution. I don't have a picture of it myself. And remember, it is similar.
