Mount Vernon, IL.
Hello I'm the BADWOLF. I am new to the forum but not to the site or the hunt. I am located out of Mt.Vernon, IL. I have been doing cache and site research on a number of stories ( not just in IL.) since I was kid. I'm not much on coin shooting, more into cache hunting, but I do collect them. I travel alot so don't be amiss if I don't respond to your query or comment quickly. I would like to converse with like mind people in hopes to work with, aswellas expand our knowledge base and enjoyment of the life style --- the hunt.

welcome wolf ! were all treasure hunters here.dont need to apologise for not being into any certain kinda hunting.just enjoy

Mt. Vernon brings to mind a depression era stash of paper and gold currency from the bank run of '33. Not a ton of money, but enough to make your day as the story goes. Not an altogether unique scenario in those times either. Any more on that one?

Checked out any of the old Col Plug Cache River stories? Sturtivants Fort? Frederick Biebusch and his counterfieting fortune?

Go get 'em, we need md'ing stimulation.

And welcome aboard!

Thanks for the warm welcome. In response to Lowbatts, I would like alittle more info on that depression era stash you mentioned if possible.

Nothing on the Cache River area or Frederick Biebusch that I can recall, I'll have to check my files. As for local; I have spent alot of time in the southeastern part of the state (Shawneetown and Cave-in-Rock,etc.). Stories like the Harpe Bros., John Duff, Sellers Landing, and Potts Tavern. For those of you who are familiar with the Potts Tavern story the old spring still flows were old man Potts killed his own son.

An fella I know relayed a story to me of three caves found together deep in the Shawnee Forrest in Hardin County. Each cave was marked with a specific animal or insect above the entrance and near by a sword was embedded in the cliff face. The fella was supposed to show me the area but he moved away before he could. Apparently he was shown the site by a local raider who had collected numerous artifacts such as bones and jewels. I know that the Spanish made alittle push into the area but I can't dispel the possibility of an indian burial cave even though I haven't heard of local indians using caves to bury there dead.

Any thoughts on this.
