Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter Lone Star
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I am an "old" newbie from York, PA who detected for a while during my teen years using one of those $10.00 yard sale detectors and pretty much bombed at it. I am now 41 with kids of my own and have restarted, I must say that it was an episode of "Diggers" that peaked my interest. I went and bought a Bounty Hunter Lone Star because I heard it was a good starter unit. I am waiting for a thaw to really put it to the test but I have been searching local to keep me busy. My kids now watch "Diggers" regularly and can't wait to go out with me this spring.

My big question is this: Is it a good idea to "plant" some treasures (coins) for my kids to find to make it fun for them or is that "cheating". The only thing I don't like about "Diggers" is that a whole day is compressed into one show and my kids think that as soon as the detector goes on coins pop up. I have explained that it could take time to get a find and sometimes you come back empty handed. I was going to dig everything the first few times so the kids can get a feel for the sounds in the headphones. Any suggestions?

Well truly glad to be here and look forward to a long time of digging.

Welcome aboard from another member of the great state of Pennsylvania! A few years ago I planted an old quarter near the shed about two inches down when I heard the Granddaughter was coming up to visit for a few weeks. I brought out the old MD and asked my Granddaughter if she wanted to go out MD'ng. Naturally, she grabbed it and out we went. OMG - when the puppy started singing near the shed - her eye's lit up and to this day she still talks about it. Oh yea, now - everytime she comes up - she heads straight for the MD and out we go to make memories.

Welcome...

from Central Florida!

I'd certainly 'plant' some treasures to spark the interest of the kids.
Heck, come on and put some in my backyard, I'm new...I'd get a charge out of it, too.
PM me for address and area of garden to plant gold coins.:laughing7:

Actually a good idea to get them used to detecting & Keep them interested.

It's only cheating if you bury them for yourself to dig :laughing7:

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes, Looking forward to posting some finds coming up soon.

Take your kids to your local schools and search under the bleachers, you will find instant clad every where and wont have to plant any coins to find

Great suggestion, will try that this weekend!
