Hello, I am new to the hobby in regards to finally purchasing a metal detector and getting out to learn this hobby on my own merits. I have gone out with friends to tag along and learned a few things there, but I recently purchased my first detector. My kids are excited and want to get involved as well, so that is a plus. I am starting with a Garrett Ace 300 detector. I'm going to do a lot of reading here to try to learn more as well.

Welcome from Brownwood in central Texas! Great choice in detectors. I took my Garrett Ace 250 out for an hour today and found my first Indian Head Cent ever. Earlier this week, I found a 1928 wheatie, a 1906 V nickel, and a 1901 Barber dime with the same detector.
