I am so glad I found this site! I am a teacher during the day and one of the only women I know that loves metal detecting. I'm sure there are more of us out there!?!?! I started metal detecting as a child and have brought the love of the hobby to my children.
My son and I are huge history buffs and love metal detecting together.
I think it is one of the most enjoyable and active ways to teach your children about history.
Each time we find an item that we can identify, we talk about where it came from, how it was used in that certain area, what we imagine the original owner did for a living, etc.
My son is a teenager now and we still jump at the chance to go on a "hunt" together.
Soon, he will be dating and driving and we may not have as much time together, but atleast we have these great memories and "treasures" from the past.
