that looks very well made, and finished? Layman here, :dontknow: Why do you think it's a preform and was not actually utilized? And there ain't nothin "frosty" about anything these days.

That is a really great looking piece ! Although ,termed a preform celt,why would it be so polished on the business end (if I'm looking at it right) if there was more work to be done on it? I've never made one but it seems like a lot of unecessary work .Well crafted.
 

Stone of that quality usually has a polished bit and they would have polished out the inclusion in the other end or so it seems.... Maybe just never finished like you said or used and traded as is? A very nice find. You have had some good hunts. That is a good addition to your musuem :icon_sunny:
 

Thanks all for your replies. I think the thickness and shape is a celt, too thick for a pendant , jmo. My personal theory on this is that the piece was formed, pecked and polished into shape then a bit was ground to finish. I base this on personal experience because this is the fifth one I've found at this state in the process.
