I've looked into clubs and probably will join one. thanks for responding. I've caught the gold bug and Im just excited to see a flash in my pan.

The gold bug leads to GOLD FEVER. You live in a good area to raise the temp. Welcome to the hobby that we all find rewarding.

HHey thanks man...id say I've got a fever and the only prescription is more gold lol. just love being out in nature. my family has owned a ranch since before i was around and I've been going out since i was six. Panning has brought all that back and this site seems to be a great place to learn. anyways thanks man

Check out a couple of my threads if you want to. You may find a tip or two to help you on your gold prospecting journey.

There are lots of other great prospectors on this site as well. Just keep asking questions. It's the best way to learn where to start.

All the best,

Hi Aware welcome,
Red Bluff kinda got the short end of the stick when it came to gold in California. Surrounded by nice streams like Deer, Mill, And Antelope creeks with not a flake between them. I've heard stories of gold being found in Battle Creek but not known as a historical producer, for sure. There is however great gold north and south of you. There are a few folks here from Redding that can probably steer you in the right direction. The Trinity river would be a good place to start. I'm south of you in the mountains out of Chico, and I'd be happy to point you to a spot or two. The closest south from Red Bluff would be BLM's, Forks of the Buttes on Butte Creek. Probably an hour to an hour and a half away. Access ranges from easy to extreme, golds not bad either once you find it. Another spot is the West Branch of the Feather below Paradise, fairly easy access following the flume trail. Beautiful country problem is its been popular for 150 years or so, so your gonna work hard to get gold. If your having a real bad bout of the fever get on hwy 99 to Chico, the recreation area where Butte Creek crosses hwy 99 just south of town is always good for a speck or two. Further south the sky's the limit start doing searches for the rivers that interest you. Lots of folks on here from down that way. If you plan on heading down this way drop me a pm and I'll give you the nickel tour of Butte Creek.

Dang son, your making me remember some things from back in the day. Remember when skyway was 2 lane over butte creek. I use to ride my bike down honey run to Chico in 6th grade. Good times.

That I do! The Skyway with 2 lanes reminds me of driving my land cruiser onto the tracks at Jessup door, letting most of the air out of the tires and heading to Paradise. If they caught someone doing something like that nowadays they'd lock ya up and throw away the keys. Another one that brings back a lot of good memories is driving by the spot where the public pool was in Stirling City, sad it's long gone, lots of good times there.
