Found this insulator today in Virginia. The only markings are a B on the side and a backwards or reverse 7 on top.

Any help is appreciated. F59099D8-5641-4B3E-8569-E6B4491814CB.jpeg2BA5E8E4-4A18-4836-A9F5-C8336D229D83.jpeg836D20D6-DA8E-4BF7-8A27-325798697810.jpeg

Brookfield "Beehive" insulator, 1920's. The number represents the particular shop that manufactured that insulator.

Nice find and even better now that Dharmacy gave you and I.D. for it.

Most of the insulators that I've saved over years have been mounted on a wooden peg, this being done to better 'ground or insulate' the electrical current.
I find it interesting that yours is attached to what looks to be a brass post... is there a wooden piece inside the insulators body? :icon_scratch:

Thanks,
Dave

Working on the track for many years, I've seen a few, the metal part was not brass, more of a steel or galvanized steel, which was screwed into a wooden piece, which of course was screwed into the insulator. The metal piece went through the crossbar on the telegraph pole. The older ones if I remember correctly, were more of a one piece of wood that were mounted on the side of the pole.

Thanks guys. Cleaning up nicely. And yes the metal post appears to be attached to a wood piece inside the insulator. Thanks again.

Here's some examples of the attachment post that I had handy.

Does it make it more valuable with the post attached or should I remove it to really clean it good. Will probably just keep for my starting collection but wasn’t sure about the post removal. Thanks Dharmacy for the awesome photo. I’ll look that reference book Mackaydon. Thanks

The post makes a handy way to display if you attach it to something. I kept a few of the posts for that, I was going to make a mockup of the top of a telegraph pole and display some like that.
