I have recovered numerous flying eagles early ihps and shield nickels. Always come out of the ground with an orange/brown/red color. This 1857 flying eagle is an exception….my question to all the experts here is, did they make an all copper or bronze flying eagle? If not what explanation would there be for this one being toned green?

Great detail on that cent. Not sure about how it got its color. Congrats!
Should have added, this was recovered in a grain field, soybeans…

This is my take on coinage.
Well drained loamy the patina is great.
Heavy clay they tend to get burnt.
Great looking recovery 👍

I’ve noticed the same, anytime I find a coin in a sandy like soil it is always in a lot better condition than clay based soils….thanks!

They are roughly 90% copper, (88% to be exact) so I guess a fertilized field could play a part in the greenish patina.
