Howdy T-netters. I posted this item from last weekends field of iron hunt. It's a sizable chunk of what appears to be melted or natural copper material. It has a wonderful splotchy green patina to it and I just don't know if it's a man made melted mess of copper or a natural formation. I am thinking man made but, not sure why they would be melting copper back in the day. I have found two similar "nugget" type finds of copper or brass that appear either melted or natural but, don't know why old timers would be melting such metals. Any thoughts would be appreciated. You may be correct. I guess I was thinking this was done intentionally for some reason. Probably melting LC's, Flying Eagles, Two Centers, & Indians to keep me from recovering them.:BangHead: Thanks for the input.

How big is it? You are probably in an area that could have natural copper. I'm in Central WI and have found several copper pieces, called float copper. Left from when a glacier receded long ago.

Here's another picture of it among other finds for scale. Hope this helps.006.JPG

I'm thinking the same as what mick56 is thinking. Take a file to it and see if it'll expose an area of shiny natural copper.
