I found this in the mid nineties at an old swimming hole in my former home town. It registers on my detector as solid silver. It is 10 mm from left to right, 11.7 mm top to bottom, and 2.95 mm thick. It weighs somewhere between a half dollar and a quarter, my guess closer to a half. the writing on the left appears to be the letters for sigma sigma alpha nu and one more letter that is worn. Under his outstreched arm are the letters representing sigma omega sigma tau kappa rho and alpha. In his other hand appears to be a dagger. And under the outstretched arm is a circle bracketed by a line with up pointed double legs, similar in shape to a butlers tray and under that is a rectangle with a line down the middle and a rounded top. On the other side is a profile with no other letters or markings.

Anyone have any ideas? I consider this to be one of my best finds, I know it sure is an odd. But it is a very lovely coin.

Thanks Vrent

I would be willing to bet that it is a modern reproduction. Definitely Greek in style; however, also modern in style.

Hi there:
What is your coin actually made of? It doesn't look fake to me. It looks like a lot of Greek coins throught he centuries. The only thing that is a little odd is the difference between the styles one side and another. One seems very Asia minor and the other rather modern.
Good luck on the ID.

the coin is silver. the pond is was found in was closed for swimming in the early sixties, too many people's skin was falling off. the powers that be thought a landfill located uphill from the swimming hole was a good idea...hmmmm wonder what went wrong with their thinking

any way the coin is silver and has a smooth rounded edge with no seam even under a loop. I am sure it s not ancient as in thousands of years old, but still wondering modern what? people keeep saying frat coin but no one explains what a frat coin is please do so
