Ryan invited me to an old site that had a couple nice stories accociated with it. Great start to a new year! I ended up with a 1917 Walking Liberty half, 1906 Barber dime, 2 1890 Indians, 4 wheats 1917D, 1923, 1924, 1935, two American LC's, a little lead soldier and a cool heart marked heel plate.

Would like to go back there

All I can see on the LC's are 18??

Just a side note on the heel plate. Not sure if people believe that they where worn by "ladies of the night" but the home owner told us that the place used to be a brothel.

Good score on the silver half nice early one :icon_thumleft: i always liked those brass heel plates very interesting story behind that heart one :laughing7: CW time period to . My 2nd hunt ever i dug one on a mid 1800,s farm here on Long Island pictured below . Those heel plate,s can go for 60.00 to 100.00 each rarest of all the designs . Good hunt Jim

Civil War soldiers heel plate, which would be worn on his brogans or boots. It is made of brass and measures approximately 1 ¾” x 1 ½”, with a heart in the center and having three nail holes for attachment. They were used to try and sustain the life of the soldier’s shoes, because quite often when they were worn out he would have to wait a period of time for replacement. These unique items were not a regulation issue, but sold by the camp sutlers. They had several different designs, but the heart is the most difficult to find…..and the rarest. This example was recovered several years ago in Richmond, Virginia.
