Hey y’all! Had a successful hunt today. Came across a beautiful glossy flint Guilford, a broken quartz Guilford, a quartz scraper, a broken flint tip, and a huge flint heartbreaker. Can anyone help to ID the big one? Thanks!
Nice hunt, and I am liking that grey glossy flint material. The big one with the tip gone looks like a Savannah River type to me. That looks like it was a fun hunt!
I agree with SAVANNAH RIVER (same as APPALACHIAN). Long stem variation?
-Medium to Large Broad Blade
-Quartzite is common.
-Commonly Concave/Bifurcated at Base of Stem
-Square To Tapered Shoulders
-Stems are Narrow to Broad and commonly Narrowing toward the Base
-Bases are sometimes ground
Middle to Late Archaic into the Woodland Period. (Reference:Overstreet)
