Hit a war of 1812 site with a buddy of mine...and as usual, we came up with some good finds and had a blast!

My finds for the day:

5 - 1812 Royal Regiment of Artillery buttons (2 cuff) all complete with shanks

1 - Pre-1812 Artillery button

1 - 9 pounder

2 - musketballs

plus misc. junk

The 9 pounder will make a nice addition to my growing collection. I now have a 3 pounder, 6 pounder, and a 9 pounder. Now for a 12 and an 18 :) Dare to dream LOL

The cannon ball either has a very interesting firing mark...or it's a beaten up broad arrow stamp. Sure looks like it if you look from the right angle.

Thanks for looking!

I'd say that too, a great addition to anyones collection. Great buttons for a collection too.

Well done Wess...it sure looks like a broad arrow...without the point...

Hi Wess, how's it going? Obviously good, LOL. Great finds and congrats. How did you clean up that canon ball? I need to clean mine, still soaking in distilled water after 1 year. HH, Mike

I almost forgot about the war of 1812. Those are indeed stellar relics!

Nice photos too!

Congratulations!

Thanks for the comments folks! :)

I hope to be posting a pic of a cross belt plate after my next 1812 hunt! LOL Dare to dream...

I love the cannon balls! way to go!

My bud and I have a spot where in the past 3 months 14-15 cannonballs have been pulled up.....SO I know how rare they can be....Did you clean the ones pictured?

Right on. What size are the cannonballs? The three in my pics are a 3 pounder, 6 pounder and a 9 pounder. Still hoping to add a 12 and 18 pounder this year.

I did in fact do the cleaning and preservation on the cannon balls in the picture.

Well, during the Civil War, 3lbers had become just about obsolete (mostly Revolutionary War and War of 1812 use). So the most common shells that we have found though there were others used, are 6lbers both solid and case w/ Bormann fuses, 12lber solid and case w/ Bormann fuses, and 10lb Parrotts w/ fuse.

3,6,9 pound balls then a 12 and an 18 , youll never be able to walk!!!!!!! ;)
well done!
