Relic Hunting
Me and some freinds got out this past wednesday for a day of relic hunting and even though the day started out slow, we ended up with some great relics and a week we will never forget.

Josh and I started out digging around an old tree, with many iron signals and hiding behind the iron was a gun tool that was found by Josh, a couple of .69 minnies, and some pistol casing with the bullet still in them.

I was on the other side of the tree finding about the same some .69's and a few round balls. My other 2 hunting buddies were out in the woods somewhere, when Josh and I decided that we would go move to another location closer to the trucks, about half way there we were stopped by a call on the radio, stating that my buddy had found a ''bottle pit'' so we turned around to go see what he was digging.

When we got there he was working a beautiful greenish blue champagne bottle. All 4 of us were standing right there watching as he was pulling bottle after bottle out of the latrene. He ended up with 11 whiskey bottles and 1 champagne bottle, all intact except for one :headbang:

At the end of the day we compared finds, we ended up with 26 round balls, 5 .69 calibers, flat button, 12 bottles, 4 .58 calibers, 3 intact .32's with caseing and bullet, gun tool, latern hanger, spoon, token that reads (navy and army) on one side (long live the union) on the other, and a few pieces of melted camp lead.

It was a great day to get out and we cant wait to get back and hit it harder :hello:

A great day. It looks like the mouths are broken off most of the bottles. We found New York winter camp years ago and all of the whiskey and champagne bottle had the mouths broken off. we would find the mouths, some still with the cork, with the wire still around them. The soldiers had broken the mouths off instead of taking the corks out.

Nice finds guys....yeah I was going to ask the same thing...if the mouths were broken. That was a really good day of

hunting and a REALLY nice variety CONGRATS :headbang:  :icon_thumleft: Cru said you guys looks "sketchy" :D

;D. Josh has a devilish look on his face with his POST NAVY stubble around the face......sort of a chicken hawk grin

   .....wish I could've made it with you guys but I had things I needed to do to get ready for DIV.

On another note, I had quite a nice hunt too yesterday. Keep the passion high  :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

I have very little interest in bottles but that looks like fun. If I ever did stumble upon a bottle dump I would definitely dig it.

Nice finds, but not sure I would ever leave the property that gave up 4 seated, a capped bust, and flying eagle in six hours ???

Great hunt!! And a nice variety found.
And think nothing about the remarks about the condition of the group.
C'mon over to Korea, and hunt with me. We got snakes, wild man-eating pigs, killer wasps, and every now and then, a bear.
But, looks like youall can handle yourself.......you would be a +++ in my book. (OH! I forgot to mention the Korean guys
with guns, who are SHOOTING the wild pigs and bears. Not for the faint-hearted.)

Yea the necks are broken off, but from my understanding this was commen, they would break the necks saying they were easier to drink from :dontknow:

Yep They would break the mouths off. It's is fairly common to find bottles that way. In case anyone was wondering I was not being critical of the condition. I was just letting you know why they were broken like that in case you didn't know. I've dug some like that and I was happy with them.

You ought to be more interested in bottles, with the age of the sites you dig! If I can dig a $500 piece of stoneware here in Kentucky, you should be able to dig some Fine glass and pottery up there.

There is no question it is an untapped resource here as no one digs them! If I could get educated and become successful it locating bottle dumps I have a never ending supply of sites, but probably never even get through all the places we have detected so far. I'm not interested in bottles as far as collecting goes, but I certainly am when it comes to cash and fun!
