Great Day Detecting Coins & Relics, 1854 G.B. Cent and Another Half Dollar!
I had a really nice time detecting today, just me , my new detector and fresh air and sunshine. The only thing that would have made it better would be to have one of my detecting buds with me, but it wasn't to be today.
The evening started out really well, my first coin hit being an 1854 Queen Victoria Cent from Great Britain. I dug down 8 inches and there she was staring up at me with all her green glory. At that point my heart skipped a beat, because I felt for sure it was a US large cent. After cleaning off the green a little , I saw it was a Victoria Cent, but I was fine with that, it's still a really fun and cool find.
As I went along I picked off four wheaties, 1913, 1919, 1946, and an acid washed one with no date. Then I got a 1936 Buffalo nickel, another big surprise came when I got a nice high reading, I was thinking newer quarter, then bam, out pops a 1954 Ben Franklin Half Dollar! This Half was only 5-6 inches deep, so I wondered why nobody had detected it before, well upon re-checking the hole I found out why. About an 1 1/2" away from the Half laid a iron skeleton key, many detectors were not getting a very good signal there on account of that key, but I was really happy that the F-75 picked up the Half very well, In fact I didn't have a clue the iron key was there until I removed the half dollar.
Some of the relic finds included a knife, a Train Conductors button, a key tag or luggage tag marked only with a 1, a part of an antique gold plated earring with fake stone, a lead buckshot, and of course the skeleton key.
This stuff all came from the same area as the Barber Half and other coins and relics I have been finding.
I hope you all got out and did some digging today, if not I wish you all success this weekend!
