Has anyone ever seen a quarter struck like this?? it looks at though the obverse has been struck twice 180 degrees opposite the first strike. the reverse has only been struck once but is kinda distorted. My grandfather found this on a tot lot and since hes not the most computer saavy person i told him id throw this out there and see what i could find out for him.

Pretty cool!!! Can't help you on the rarity...
Surely somewone will though.......

you have a very distorted strike error ---those in extreme cases --can have some value --yours would be an rather highly extreme case in my veiw ---I cannot judge the condition its in--- hard to tell from the photos to be honest ---the better the shape the better the price---- the value as always is what the market will offer and what you will or will not accept for it -- get better photos and e bay it if you want to ----good luck--- Ivan

One strike looks not only 180 degrees rotated, but also mirrored - like anther coin was stuck in the die to create the second strike. Kinda wierd. You will need to ask someone more savy in mis-strikes than I, but I would definitely hold onto it.

Johnny - Nice find for your grandfather. Hope it's a rare mistrike.

HH

johnyrebel, hope you don't mind but I took the libertry of saving your picture and resizing it to try and clear it up a bit. Nice coin BTW.

Looks like another coin got stuck in the punch and another blank was struck by the stuck coin.

Definitely an error of some consequence.

yeah ill try and get better pics up. i dunno if its me or the camera but i can never seem to get them to come out right.

Tell Granpa he did good JR...Had to be a Maryland Q'? ;) Born and raised in MD.,Had to head for the hill's with all that mess down there....HH!!

Looks homemade to me. One quarter was hammered against the other or put in a vice. Tipoffs are the flattened reverse side, the reversed impression, the still decent rims... I could be wrong, but I feel 99.9% sure this is not a genuine mint error coin. Another clue for me is that it was found on a totlot. As a kid I smashed, drilled and pressed my share of coins making neat "errors".
