"granny's yard" surprise hunt

Spent the morning with Neil. Decided to give beach hunting a try. Beach hunting is not my favorite thing but I did dig several coins, nonetheless. Decided to stop by a relative's property on the way home and give the front yard a try. After watching Neil shockingly dig 3 colonial coppers from the unsuspecting yard, I decided it was my turn. I went to the opposite side of where Neil was hunting. After getting an odd, yet promising signal, I dug down 6 inches. What I uncovered was so unlikely in my own mind that I immediately brought it to Neil and told him it was "play money". Never having dug a half dime before and not expecting to dig one today, I was shocked to find I had indeed dug a Seated Half Dime! 1843 and it cleaned up nice with great details minus the pitting.

Awesome score !

Congrats on the Half Dime! I hope you get back there soon and clean up. (I would have been there at dawn if it was my grandparent's house!) I bet there is more treasure waiting for you. Thanks again for the invite!

Thats a GREAT find no doubt! HH:thumbsup:

Very nice !

Wow Ben, that is awesome!!!! That is on my wish list. Can't wait to see it in person. I would hunt that yard very slowly next time. Congrats on a great find.

great find and in nice shape

I guess you guys will be hitting that place up again! congrats

It was hit with my E-Trac and Neil's V3i. Neil and I discussed it last night and next time I go I will be bringing a rake and clearing out the area. I plan on turning off all discrimination, cranking the sensitivity, and hitting it from all angles and investigating every signal.

Great job guys!
I know NJ was part of the first 13 colonies but until I saw your finds I would have never thought those things still existed in the ground right under our feet!
Wow, thanks for the inspiration that there is more out there than pull tabs.

Awesome finds.:leprechaun-hat:
