Chinese food coupons?Just a guess

They appear to be Chinese and money related. I can recognize the symbol for Yuan (Chinese currency) but not much else. Possibly fixed amount bank/savings deposit slips.

I am NOT an expert, but it seems that I've seen these recently.

My GUESS is that they are a type of Chinese bank notes, issued by a bank, to be used as currency. It is a weird system, at least to me, and while I understand it, I don't know how to explain it.

Maybe the easiest way to explain it is that they are like a bank issued IOU, and people and businesses transfer those IOU notes from one business to another as payment. Whoever is holding the IOU note when it comes due at the bank can redeem it for cash at the bank.

It is a very common practice to use these IOU notes in China. The WSJ wrote a cool article about a year ago explaining the system, and how they were creating a major cash crunch in the business world.

Again, just a guess.

They are not IOU's, those have both a 'chop' and fingerprint, I have had those in the past, and the design on the paper is different. Been too many years since I have been to China, my cantonese/mandarin is too rusty to remember the characters. If they were issued by a person, they would have the 'chap' mark, haven't ever seen a Chinese Bond, but these could be something like that. I think 100 yuan is like $15.00 USD today, so I doubt they are food coupons, but the marks on them make it look like they have been cashed in. Just what little I know about Chinese debts/currencies. Strange that they are written left to right, most of the things from the bank of Hong Kong I have had has been top to bottom script.

Hey Justkeepdigging
I noticed that these three"notes" that your Grandpa gave you look EXACTLY like the 350 that were in that old backpack you bought a few months before.

Is it possible that you may have dropped some at his house and he found them and gave to you? Probably came from the backpack that you bought though, dont you think? I mean what are the chances?
Oh, and congratulations on the sword you dug recently. That thing is freaking AWESOME!

I think you got Diggemmup and JustKeepDigging confused there, but I agree that it looks like the OP forgot that he posted about these same notes a while back. Tangled web, eh?

Sorry to burst your bubble but they are called fa piaos quite common in China the ones you haver are from guangdong province. They are a kind of receipt given to you at a restaurant. Some are like a scratch and win ticket where you can win money but not much say about $1US. Some restaurants don't like giving them out because it means they have to pay taxes :-). If you ask for a fapiao the restaurant owner may say... hey I'll knock a few yuan off the bill instead of the fapiao or give you a free bottled water.
