Gotta clean up those big signals / small wheatie hoard & surprise silver
I Have not Hunted very much yet this spring . I am still on a 6 day work week schedule and I have are you ready for this Tennis elbow in my swing arm ! The scourge of the MDer . . I Did go out to a city forest yesterday after work for a couple of hours . I am glad I did .after an hour and a half and a couple decent finds . I got a big overload signal and proceded to remove the 2 inch layer of leaf duff and right away I spotted a piece of a porcelain doll partially buried in the Dirt which was also riddled with black ashes. . I rechecked to pinpoint and got my ears blasted in an area about the size of a basketball. The ground looked pretty soft and by the size of the blackened spot on the floor I immediately thought burning barrel .so I gently probed the dirt with my shovel hoping to feel the big piece of melted junk metal I was going to uncover . . I didn't really feel anything solid so I flipped the plug and saw a bunch of green pennies pop out together. Oh cool I said a pocketspill . I now used my hands to take another small handful of pennies out . I had to look at this point ! Were they memorials or Wheaties . Wheaties all of them ! Reached in and pulled out a few more . I rescaned and the plug I had pulled and the hole was still was screaming at me . I Sifted through it looking for more Wheaties and instead I was holding a big piece of Jewelry . Right away I thought costume jewelry but a pretty piece . a Fleur DE lis with a purple stone . I dug with my hands and pulled out some more jewelry pieces . A marble showed up and a few more Porcelain doll pieces ; I counted my Wheaties . 23 of them not bad but where were the silver coins ?? I rescaned and all seemed quiet it was getting dark and I mean dark so I covered up and booted for the truck . Even Though my arm was killing me at work today I could not wait to go back and recheck the site to make sure I did not miss something . As soon as I got there today I uncovered and rechecked the area and got a good loud hit again . I go down to start digging with my hands and see another good size buckle piece laying right on top of the ground . I had missed it or drooped it yesterday . This piece I noticed still had alot of the silver plate on it as I put it in my keeper pouch . I picked up a few more small garmet hooks and snaps and a cufflink with silver inlay in the area but that was it ! None of the pieces were more than 3 inches down into the soil under the leaves . When I got home I was stunned to see that the Fleur de lis buckle was marked O R & H sterling ! Oh happy day ! Oh what a nice overload signal that was ! MaineRelic.
