It was a slow day and I was beginning to think I was going home empty handed. Then I got a repeatable “27” on my Nox 800. I popped the plug and beaped it from both sides. Still a “27” from both directions. I got my pinpointer out and the target seemed to be at the very bottom of the 8 plus inch plug. I figured I better slow down and not get too aggressive looking for the target with the pinpointer. I started breaking the plug apart and knew it was a silver dime as soon as I saw it. I was hoping it wasn’t just a silver Rosie and it wasn’t. I sprayed it and was hoping for at least a Barber but nope an 1891 Seated Dime! My first Seated!

Excellent find, congrats

Nice score! You found this in Iowa? I'm up in SE Minnesota, and i've never found a seated! A barber is as old as i've found.

Thank you! Yes. I am in Des Moines, Iowa. I dug this in the front yard of a house that was built in 1897. I have only been detecting since March 2020 and was starting to believe a Seated was never going to happen for me. I have been fairly fortunate in my limited tenure with this hobby. I have dug 46 silvers with this find but old silver has been elusive. I have only found 2 Barbers and now this Seated Dime for old silvers.

My first coin and still the only silver coin I have found was an 1854 seated. That’s a great feeling. I am glad for you. 🤗

It's such a great feeling knocking anything off the bucket list, but getting that first Seated is special- Congrats to you and here's hoping there's many more ahead!

sweet seated dime! my next will be my first. Big time gratz!

congratulations! I have been detecting for what seems like forever and finally plucked my first seated dime a few years ago. I found it in a gravel driveway. its almost unrecognizable from all the damage. Still it was my first and the prettiest dime i have.
Then, just a couple weeks ago i found a seated quarter and then a seated half within 20 feet of each other in the middle of a farm field !
my point is...keep on swinging and more will come when you least expect it.
