So since most of the snow here has melted,,I was finally able to get out and try out my Explorer II. It was to a place that i've been to before, but I just needed to try it out. My impressions are pretty good. I kno its still gonna take some time to get use to it and figure out all the settings. I was having some trouble locking onto targets though...it was a little chirppy..and some targets would go off when i swing the coil one way, but then not do anythin when i pass it back over...Im guessing this may mean that its just junk?? or maybe i need to tune my settings? Idk, but I realized that it can go deep and it can definately find targets.

And that x-1 probe that I have is like a gift from God..thanks to all those who recommended it, its a blessing

What are your basic settings and is it a low or high one way tone? If you can answer me, I can answer you.

Just wait until you have a target that's hard to find even with the probe... it makes you realize how bad it would be without. I like it and I can dig as big a hole as I want.

Well I really didnt mess around with them too much...I think I just had it at factory preset, but i did make the sensitivity to the high 20's cuz the area isnt full of iron, and i put the threshold down to where i could hardly hear it. The one way tone was usually high..and sometimes it would come back on the second sweep and sometimes it wouldnt

Make two changes for next time. Use Iron mask mode set at about -8 to -10, and set your gain and volume to max. If you keep the gain there and get used to it, I'll GUARANTEE you'll thank me later. The other settings are ok in factory for now as they don't change things a whole lot.

Try that for a hunt and see what happens with those one way sounds. Most times a one way will not be worth digging and in time the tone of the sound will tell you if it's worth chasing. That said, you can never always guess right on a way tone so for me it often has to do with what the site is like. Lots of decent targets I'd probably pass (unless the tone said maybe), but if there wasn't much to find I'd probably dig em.

Re: Got out with the Explorer II

Alright cool, thanks for the advice

The best for coins and jewelry is using the iron mask mode with a number in the -14 range, but it will probably take you a while to get used to it because it's close to no discrimination. Going anymore than -10 right now might just add to your confusion as the detector will make more noise.

Yea, i put the iron mask on -9 and it was definately making more noise than what i had it on before. I guess my problem now is trying to distinguish targets

Yep, just takes some time to get used to.
