I got my V3i back on Friday and it was raining so couldn't go out but I played around with some tweaks on tones and vdi's for Sat morning.
I went out yesterday morning and most everything was in the factory reset mode except for what I had tweaked on Friday. Well it seemed like a mess and I was constantly adjusting one thing or another. I never realized that I had probably tweaked it enough in the past 2 yrs that I had finally found the settings I liked best. For awhile i was totally confused because with the factory reset it was like a new detector. I hunted for an hour and found 2 dimes and one right in the same tracks I had noticed where someone had probably got a signal but didn't dig. I seen the outline of his coil in the sand in several places and one right next to the dime I found. When I seen the outline of his coil in the sand I had pretty much knew I was wasting my time until I found the dime.
I went home for a while then went back to a different place on the beach. I walked the shore line for about 1/2 mile with out as much as a hit and then I walked a line next to a few small dunes about 75' from the water. This area is never used by sunbathers or people playing the water but many people do walk the beach. I had little to no hope of finding anything up by the small dunes but I had to walk back to my truck anyway.
I was more interested in tweaking things as I went along. I walked maybe 50' and found a dime, another 50' I found a penny, next a nickel and then a quarter and another dime. I was amazed I found anything. I only dug 3 small tabs but they were in the vdi range between 4 and 6 for small gold jewelry. Especially since I have never seen anyone walking in the sand that far from the beach.
I ended up happy. I had kind of tweaked things to my liking and had my sensitivity set right. At first it was way off and once I adjusted it a cpl of times it seemed really good.
I need to adjust on the tone a bit but other than that I am happy. I am going to hit a cpl of trashy areas to see if I have it adjusted close to where it was before it went haywire.
After having to use my ATP for about 2 weeks the V3i seemed like I went from a chevy to a caddilac... I am not knocking the ATP because I like it and I am good with it but the V3i is worth twice the money.
