Got my FIRST metal detector today! Garrett Ace 150!

Got my first metal detector today! put it together and started using it right away. My first real signal was right by the right part of my house. It turned out to be 6 pennies in the ground! Not very old though. Then, I went over to the old schoolhouse beside us and checked around. I suddenly got a signal and it ended up being a old key! Will upload pics later. Overall a pretty good day for my first time using a detector!

Farmdump, hope you enjoy your new md and make some good finds. I'm waiting for an ace 250 to arrive tomorrow or Friday. I think my first find will be a roofing nail from my yard. Not what I'm after but that's my guess.

The 150 is a dern good unit. When you master it, you will have a solid understanding of metal detecting. When I bought mine from a local dealer he didnt even try to sell me on the 250. When I went back a year later to buy a 250, he almost laughed at me, told me pinpoint isnt worth the extra bucks.
To pinpoint, just lift the coil while sweeping back an forth, you will notice the response get more narrow with each swipe. Because of the shape of the detection field, which is about the same as the coil.

Thursday I went and checked out a old stone foundation in the town beside me. My first hit was a muffin tin. Then I found a weird piece of metal. I then discovered very old pieces of glass. I'm hoping to detect more today. (if the rain ever lets up)
