I work 2nd shift and it gives me time to visit banks before work. The first bank had no halves, I went to a second bank, the lady said they had $ 5.50 in loose halves, she said we even have a older one if you want it, I said yes I do. She asked if I was a coin collector and I said yes, she said she had a large dollar coin if I wanted it, so I got it also, It was 76 Ike. I told her I metal detect and get free coins, she and lady next to her laughed. I thanked them and told them I will be back. I like when a bank has small amounts and I can buy them all, I don't leave wondering if the ones I did not buy, were the good ones. I feel it all is timing, you either walk in at the right time or the wrong time.

First off, nice finds.

If your means allow, when you walk in to ANY bank looking for halves; be prepared to buy all they have. That may mean having $1K - $1.5K on you (or in the account with that bank). To do it successfully, and not have to "...leave wondering if the ones I did not buy, were the good ones. ", always buy all they have. This is especially true for the halves.

This is not a denomination that is right for everyone. You have to have opportunity, ability and means. IMHO

Nice score on the 49.

you don't need to carry that much at one time. when i am short on funds, say i only have a couple hundred in cash, and i find a bank with $1k, i can do one of two things. i can walk outside and withdraw my maximum ($500) at thier ATM giving me say a total of $700 on hand. i'll buy the $700, search in the lot, head to my dump bank, and return for the other $300. this i have done with as little as $100. pick up $100, search, dump, and return for another $100 until i have exhausted thier supply. this also makes it safer for you so you don't have to worry about taking a great loss if you are robbed.(which wouldn't be unusual here in Philly)

So happy for you! I love to see positive results and great finds. Mistergee--that is some really good advice.
