Fisher F2
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Hello everyone,

I am a brand new hobbyist and have been extremely excited waiting on my first metal detector to arrive and it did today, the Fisher F2. I followed the directions through set-up and once I was ready to shut it off it wouldn't do anything as I hit the Power button again. When I put the batteries in the detector powered up automatically, after a bit of messing with settings I decided it was time to turn it off and go to dinner. When I hit the power button nothing happened and I ended up having to just take the batteries back out. Has anyone had this problem? :icon_scratch:

Thanks!

I dont know much about the F2 but have you tried holding the on/off button for a couple seconds?

Yes, I tried holding it for over 15 seconds and nothing ever happened.. I held the power button down like that a couple times to make sure that wasn't the problem. The instruction manual doesn't say anything about powering it "off" either. I'm guessing it assumes you just push the power button again and it turns off.

I would say you got a bad detector . i would see if they would exchange it for another one......If not you will have to send it in for repairs......... To bad as it is your first detector. But after you do get things fixed up.... you will enjoy the hobby .... A big
disappointment for your first detector though......

that's a turn off

Hunt until the batteries die!

Silverlust,
Make sure the batteries are installed correctly. Same thing happened with me. Hope this helps. HH, Terry.

Wow, Silverlust, that is a crappy way to start out this hobby! The Fisher F2 was my first detector and i've had no problems with it. Return the machine for another one and get out there digging and enjoying the hobby like you should be.

Esp. when you put the batts in and it powered up sounds like a bad power switch. Don't fret though, just return it. F2 is a good machine.
I know it's disappointing, you were ready to go, sorry to hear that.

have faith fisher offers a five warranty don't they on that model
at lest it wasn't a day after the warranty stop
you will find great thing yet good thing come to people who wait
you have one up on all of us

...I guess that would be a turn off for Fisher detectors if the very first one you get does not work.............. lift loop i see you are also a Garrett user..

yes I do own two Garretts and com-paired too the white's I own there disappointing to say the lest but they do work the cx plus is inexpressive until you fire up the 5900 di Pro then it's good buy see you in the funnies Garret and the gtax is a sucker for old pull off right from get go but is a nice sounding detector at least Garrett uses good speakers....

Hey guys, I'm going to get back to the detector problem after I eat lunch. I will obviously check the batteries once more. There is one thing I did notice when the detector was powered on, the battery indicator was reading as an empty battery figure (no energy bars inside battery looking at the display) does that mean it is fully charged or pretty dead? I'll try some new batteries as a last resort but that's obviously a super long shot that almost makes no sense but my brain wants it to work haha...

WOW! Just an update guys, I think I was just extremely excited yesterday to finally be able to open the F2 box after a grueling and hectic two weeks of work that I literally finished as the FedEx man rolled up to my apartment. I have been taking a quantum physics course at my college and had a test then a final in the last two weeks and I moved out of my old apartment the day the box came... SOOOOOO I was Tired, Excited, and just brain beat when I was fumbling with the detector... I think I put one battery in the wrong way, at any rate it all works great and I'm ready for my first time out to the park with it this evening.... Lesson already learned, the detector will actually be on when you put one battery in ( I don't know if its actually functional) but it turns on and won't turn off.... BOTH BATTERIES NEED TO BE IN THE RIGHT WAY FOR IT TO ACTUALLY WORK CORRECTLY :hello2:

Yall are so kind to want to cheer me up and continue, I already love this hobby and I haven't gone out yet!

Lesson learned...now get out there and dig! Just dont get so excited you start digging where there is no signal! LOL

Problay one battery runs the coil power and the other the box.
