Got me going Nut's....Make's no sense to me......

Begin.....11/16 +/- Nut with a funny looking insert :icon_scratch: It's "locked" in on both side's and there's no way to even thread this onto any kinda threaded rod or bolt or for that matter......ANYTHING.Meaning nothing,It was found in the field's of Antietam yesterday....I just want to find out how this was any way......Something and How!!!!! :icon_scratch: Maybe I'm :tard: but I still don't get it........Help!!!!!

I,ve seen something simalar to that used in heavy copper wire attachments.My guess is its electrical in nature.

It's part of a split nut wire connector, used to splice
two wires together. I used to use them in my job,
to make ground connections.

Ah! Google "split nut wire connector" and go to images. Makes perfect sense when you see both halves put together. You folks are amazing!

Cool i just found one yesterday.
Can`t wait to here the end result but i think they were used for connecting a ground rod to an electrical service on a house in some way.

Yep. Im a bit late on this but they are modern. I have them in my truck. They are really the only way to connect two heavy electrical wires, where wire twist nuts are too small. They need to be taped up after they are connected...unless they are ground wires. They come in different sizes.

Lineman usually call it a kearney.its usually used in copper wire to wire connections.they have been used for a long time but out here in Ca. we dont use them much anymore
