Went back to my virgin site today.

I've really pounded this place & targets were hard to come by but I was able to get me a new coin. A 1714 Danish 2 Skilling! The Heart Symbol is the mint mark of Copenhagen.

I was also able to get a few more buttons & what looks to be a part of bent shoe buckle. I'm sure there are more targets there but we really could use a good week of solid rain. This site is on a hill so the water sinks down.

Also had a young buck & his young doe follow me around. Was pretty cool he was not frightened of me and was about 10' feet away. I kept a nice distance from his doe so he didn't feel the need to protect her. Was really wild to see them grooming each other so close & as I moved around they kept on follow me.

That's pretty wild, only 1 year apart! I wish they could talk as I'd love to know how they got here!

Amazing find Reb! Skilling is the Germanic spelling of the English word Shilling I believe. I don't think that the Scandinavian countries were using the monetary unit of Kroner (Crown) yet, but I'm not sure--hopefully someone will chime in on this. And I'm not sure what monetary unit consisted of Skillings and how many though it may have been 120. MisterTell seems to find quite a few 1 & 2 Skilling coins in Norway, but it's a rare find over here for sure! Great job!

Yea, you don't see the Danish colonial skillings coins show up much over here.I think what is weird about yours is the other finds that were found with it.The one I got came from a site that everything on the site that has been found was very early 1700's & late 1600's so it fitted my site well. You got the older coin but with newer finds but that's how things happen sometimes likely passed around awhile (90/100)yrs going by your other goodies. But you may just be getting into the site as well & could find out it was used for sometime & older things may start showing.Good Luck.It was nice seeing another posted mine was found back in 2009.
Take Care,
Pete,

I'm NOT argueing with you, but I don't quite understand why the pin hole is at right angle to what you'd (or I) would expect, and why is there no mating hole on the other side. Would you have a picture of another, maybe complete.

Nice Silver there Rebel. We need rain bad as well.

I'd say the "shoe buckle" and the cufflink button are at least close to same time period.

This site has been VERY good to me. Except for my 1663 - 1 Reale Cobb & 1694 William & Mary 1/2 Penny found here all of my coin finds here have been early to late 1700's. This site is not on the 1867 maps, so I feel it was lost about the late 1700's or early 1800's.

The object is completely out of shape the opposite 'mating hole' has broken off (this was a large buckle). I stand by my ID.

Or there may be a older site close by.

Here's hoping. Once the weeds are down & fall is set in, I'll be exploring out there. I've wandered around a bit but I haven't found anything yet.
