My first ever!

Lisabug and I went back out to the 'cut out' spot today to see what we could dig up. This place has given us a few purdy good keepers for such a small area. Today we spent a couple of hours diggin. Here's a pic of the size of the area we can get to...

Right off I find this round thing on top of the ground. I first thought, "Oh yea! A clay marble!!" Then I saw a little spot on it and thought, "Oh booo....just a bead." Then I got home and looked up clay marbles and found it! "Oh yea! It is a marble!!!" :D
I'm thinkin it's one of these Bennington marbles..here's a link. What do ya think? Yea or Nay?

And the pic...

Next I find a 1911 Liberty 'V' nickel then the 1937 dog tag and a thimble. No bullets today! Can you believe it! :D
This site has been GREAT but sooo small of an area to be able to get to. :-\ Here's a pic of Lisa explaining alll she would clear off if she were to get on that dozer and get to work! :D

Great finds Nana. Coincidentally I found a thimble too today. Mine was flattened however. Do you know if thimbles have any value? I also found a Ponds jar 23 today but don't know how to find out if its worth anything. Looks like a good spot you have although I think using a bulldozer is a bit unfair. Ha Ha ;D ;D

Nice pics Nana and as always nice finds!

Nice going guy's, good luck on the next hunt as well.

Howdy Nana!

Definitely a bennington. A marble all the way from Germany :o. I have a box of them, but I didn't find them detecting. I collect antique marbles (have thousands of them). It's been a while since I looked at marble prices, but I'd guess that bennie is worth ~ 8 or 10 bucks. Nice find!

way cool marble and finds, Nana :o

Nana,
Cool finds there. Neat marble. You two really bring out the heavy equipment when you dig. I'd hate to fill those holes back in. ;D
Great pictures.
Thanks,
MM

yup thats a bennington...those eyes on em came when they were touching each other when they were salt glazed...the brown ones are purty common...the fancies [pink-multi-colored] are more valuable...those, i get about a half dollar for...in bigger sizes like over an inch get a little more pricey...

Awesome finds Donna, looks like a fun hunt! Have to keep my eyes open for those marbles, I found something that looked like a marble a few days ago, thought it was a small round handle for some pottery. I'll have to go back and get it. HH, Mike

Nice ones! Looks like lots of potential. Maybe you can take some orange flags an mark off the area you want cleared. ;) The dozer operator might not know any different. :D

Some nice finds. The Bennington is cool. Never heard of one. The V Nickel is much better than the one I found last week. :)

Have you tried clearing some of the fringe areas? Might be worth a little effort.

Bob

Great post Nana... Sure did enjoy the story and the pics... Keep us posted if additional clearing takes place...

Sweet finds, Nana. Bennington ??? lets just say I don't know anything about marbles, but that an awesome find. Love the thimble too.

Good stuff Nana! But may I ask a personal question? Does this mean you now have ALL your marbles? Or, do you still seek more? ::)

I luv those tiny huntin spots. The 14K gold ring I found last week came from a cleared out spot about 8 foot square.

I hunted a small yard down in Muskegon Michigan on Memorial Day. It was a turkey shoot! Nothing good enough to post here but the modern change was like 4 out of 6 hits. I did dig an Avon plated ring too. It was a big joke because I was telling them all how I would dig a gold ring. They all laughed when they saw me dig it. I only had like 15 to 20 minutes max to hunt :'( The gang there wanted my attention elsewhere.

Hit that site hard Nana and partner and dig that CSA buckle I know is there ::)
