I enjoy searching for quality Asian pieces. There is nothing easy about it. Date marks are basically irrelevant, copies and fakes and later repo's are the norm. We see the common knock-offs peddled everywhere.
I will buy if items are cheap as well as look promising (potentially). Many times I'll take a chance and research later. I'm a novice at best, but I have found some great pieces through GS and auctions. A plus being a "novice" is that I'm better that most (which isn't saying much-ha).
Time to move past my boring babble. I have this interesting piece I picked-up at a GS. I bought a number of nice Asian pieces at a recent sale. The GS (Estate Sale) was in more of a "The Millionaire Next Door" neighborhood (for those of you who have read the book). Once inside, it was a different story, extensive traveling and collecting/purchasing of quality pieces was obvious. The owner had spent some time in China and Italy after WW2. I bought a number of pieces, one of those is pictured.
This was more of a story post, but I plan on having this looked at soon and will hopefully have a update to post. Odds of a good find are not in my favor, they never are when chasing Asian items.

Happy hunting.

Thank you for your story. I believe the quality of the clasp is going to tell you the quality of the Jade.

Are you able to tell jade is any good just by looking at it? Or do you have to have some type of tester. I picked this up last weekend at a yard sale. Early in the morning. It's like red and green pretty much but not polished at all.

What is the clasp made of? Did you pay $75 or is that just the item number. Been meaning to learn about jade.

I believe the less inclusions in jade the better.
