Hey artifact fans !
Sometimes an artifact comes when you least expect it. I go to one of those old time barber shops where they swap story's and tell tall tails. Little kids get their first hair cut and ball like babies. It is kinda like the Mayberry Barber shop on Andy Griffith. You get a hair cut for ten bucks. My Barber had told me he found a strange looking stone tool point in his garden. I of course wanted to see it so he said he would bring it in when I came and picked up the honey. He is also a bee keeper and makes the best sour wood honey ever. So anyways he had it and I saw it was a stone drill with a straight base. He insisted I take it and put it in my little collection and would not take anything for it. It looked like another drill I had found but had never seen this color before. I was like it's Knife River Flint!! Well we do not have that material here but Larson sent me some KRF to compare. It looks close to it but it was not. Took it to the local expert and he immediately called it " Chickamauga black". I said but its not black? He said don't matter that is what the local material is called. I can not argue with this guy cause he is always right and knows everything. I am a rookie compared to him.
So long story short here is the drill that was given to me. Feel free to share any drills you may have if you want to.

Wow that is some pretty stuff. Is that red flakes in it?

Yes Rock and the tip. Neat material for sure.

So I have always wondered on this one. Is it a drill? and if not I will take it down.

This is just like that style but in a Fort Payne Chert. Not sure Rock leave it up. It is possible. Most drills were worn down point type in my opinion.

Pretty drills, TM, really nice material.

Most of the tools I find are just that ol' Coastal Plain Chert. This frame is on my wall. Some drills, some gravers, some Edgefield scrapers, some end scrapers almost certainly from salvaged points.

Nice Harry. I have always been fascinated with the edgefield tools. I was given some Kolomoki artifacts by a land owner. Neat stuff. Americus used to find a lot as well.
Here is a larger older type I have shown before with secondary work on the base so it could be a scraper as well. It is a big one. A friend collects the micro drills.

Nice frame.. here is a small one. Seems they could have been altered on the haft and used right away.

Here is some almost drill/graver and some brokes. I have some more but need to look for them. I like finding them though.

Looks like a possible drill to me. that basket looks like an artifact graveyard. I see at least one nice point in there. You should get those things out of there.

I see that one in the basket pile also...
