Re: Got a thrift store

Most likely plated. Look for other number stamps or numbers on it.

Re: Got a thrift store

its a plain "natural color" silverplate item ---( the inside could come in differant "enamaled" colors or plain ) --to "prove" my point --- just look at the two differant colors of the model102 bowl in the link above *--- their the same model number but with differant bowl colors inside *) --its a model 192 bowl with a plain "silver" finish -- but with an "added" touch --- the owl to made it special (differant) -- however I do not know if the owl was done after they bought it or if it was a "factory" done job.

There begs the question of the missing owl -
or was it miscellaneous to begin with?

Mike

Is the owl attached? :icon_scratch: I guess I just figured it was another knick knack on the table. The link Bigcy gave shows the 192 type bowl, only with a design in it. The link I showed showed a 192 type bowl with enamel plate. Ivan pointed out that these were done in different color and schemes, all still having the 192 stamped. The site that MJ linked to shows the symbol of an A with a C circling it meaning that this bowl was produced after 1945. If you look further down in the footnotes under the symbols it says "- Reed & Barton started in 1945 the use of a special symbol to indicate a silverplated Copper Alloy base metal
This symbol (C circling an A) was coupled to the year date symbol (information supplied by Reed&Barton Archive Center through Sam MacArthur).
See examples at dates 1952 and 1956."
So knowing that, where is the other date symbol? And where did that crazy OWL come from?

I just went and relooked at the whole post again. ONLY the link Bigcy posted shows the symbol of the "C encircling an A". The link I gave and the bowl goldencoin posted DO NOT have that symbol.

before 1945 there would be no "c" circling an "a" -- copper alloy silver plate mark -- thus the item is a pre 1945 * "model" 192 type * (size and shape) it appears , they came various color patterns --plain , red enamal , ect. -- the one in question appears to be a "plain" pre 1945 silverplate model 192 bowl --from the photo it appears to have a owl type knick knack attached to it ( maybe?). --- since the standard price seems to be $10.00 plus tax and shipping for "modern" reed and barton silverplate copper alloy model 192 bowl -- I';d say your's is not a bad buy for $1.60
