Sometimes it pays to go back to a pounded spot. I hit a cliff that has been very good to me during my time at the CIA. I've dug plenty of IHs and barber dimes, a few late seateds, and a few V nicks. However, I haven't gotten anything else from that spot in over a month. I started off with a St Jude medal marked sterling on the other side. I got nothing for at least a good hour. I soon got a pocket spill. There were two indians in shallow, about 2 inches. Dates are 1893 and 1887, typical late date indians that were once very plentiful at the spot
I resweeped the hole and got a deep, iffy signal. There's another coin in the hole. I dig with my hands and the DX1 confirms it's a silver dime. I pulled the dirt out carefully. It's got to be at least a barber, I haven't found one of those since January.
Nope.
Maybe it's a seated, those are always an awesome find.
No.
1814 Small date Capped Bust dime? Now THAT'S a pocket spill! Or an amazing coincidence that it was dropped a long time ago and the indians covered it up. The pics on the dime are a little blurry and I have been hesitant about cleaning it besides a little water. I went back to my room and put it in a 2x2 window until I decide the best way to get the dirt off. Depending on the detail that's being covered up , it might have been VG when it was lost. Liberty is nice and clear, but the rims are worn and flat. It's definetly the rarer small date because of the 8. It looks like an 1811 from the scans, but unfortunately, the last digit's a four. It's not the most valuable and certainly not the best condition dime from the spot, but it's still pretty Amazing! This is the oldest dime I've found and 2nd oldest silver, after my avatar.
