Hello fellow T-netters. I got out for a while this morning for some good old fashioned relic hunting. Decided to hit one of my old spots. I was thinking that this site is just so big it could never be hunted out. Thankfully I was able to pull out a coin today. It's been three straight hunts without one for me now. :P When this one came up I was thinking either half cent or 2 center. A little rub of the dirt and I saw a 2 staring back at me. After getting home and washing it off a little I see that it is a nice 1864 2 cent piece in pretty good condition. You can still see the "WE" on the shield side of the coin. This is my second 1864 2 cent piece. I found my first last June. I was also able to recover a nice silver plated button with shank intact, a crotal bell (broken...of course. ), and a buckle. Here is a picture of the days results.
Here's a close-up of the 2 center and the button.
Here is the crotal bell I found today followed by a picture of the other crotal bells I've found.....all broken. I have yet to locate an intact one.
Both of my two cent pieces. The one I found last year is in slightly better condition. Both of these coins are the "large motto" version. The small motto version of the 1864 is much more valuable.
