I found a beach that is no longer in use to go out and get the Excalibur wet at today. It is used for fishing only now. I couldn't go out past knee depth anywhere because the plant growth was nasty, and the deeper you got, the worse it got. Out in the best detecting areas the plants were all the way at the surface of the water. Not the kind of place that I wanted to get tangled up in. I will have to go back in the spring and hopefully the cold will have killed most of it.

There were lots of targets to be had, though!

9 Quarters
16 Dimes
4 Nickels
16 Cents
$4.21 clad total

1 junk earring
Sterling Ring with a funky design
Sterling Toe Ring with dolphins

and a large fishing lure, especially for such a tiny little lake, or large pond. Just a few acres in size total. Somebody was overly optimistic here! Only dug about 8 pieces of trash or so and 49 good targets. Nice day! The two rings got cleaned up a bit by using electrolysis.

All in all, it was fun to get out. It has been about 6 weeks since my last outing because I just recently moved just south of Indianapolis and got a new job, etc. Busy times. But for anyone in and around Indy that wants to get together to hunt some time, I'm game!

cool dude,, definately,, welcome back !! hope ya hook up with a buddy......

judging from those finds, the deeper spots are probably loaded with stuff. hopefully a gold ring or two is hiding in the murk! what are your first impressions of the excaliber?

a lot of the places i hunt have that seaweed/grass stuff also...kinda creepy...especially if the water isn't clear......just go slow thats where all the good stuff is......if you pull some of the grass out and take a good look at it..it isnt as nasty as you might think....just feels weird and hard to swing......dont give up i wanna see some yellow shiny stuff in your next post

Nice haul, and nice spinner bait. You'd be suprised at some of the little Largemouth's that would try to slam that thing, big as it is. If you're not into fishing, I'd try to get a couple more and sell them on Ebay. I'm sure they'll bring you in a few dollars. Those suckers are at least $3-4 dollars new. That one looks more expensive.

I love the excal! I used it maybe 6 times before my move and found 4 pieces of gold where I used to hunt. There should be some nice gold hiding out there in the deeper water!

Yeah, creepy was the exact thing I was feeling. Where I was hunting in the shallows the grass was about a foot deep and the swinging wasn't so bad. I won't give up, haha, that's for sure. But I am hesitant in that grass because growing up we used to catch nice sized snapping turtles by just running a large net through the grass, so that is always running through my mind!

Yeah, as soon as I got home I checked ebay on the brand of spinner bait that it is. Only one listing and no bids. Gotta get a few more of them and list them all in one big auction.

Brian, I never did ask...Can you swim ???.... ??? Congrats on your finds......................Lee

Haha, I can swim, but I'm no fish. I probably wouldn't last too long if I couldn't touch the bottom, haha.

Nice haul, those rings cleaned up real nice. Congrats.

WB Brian! Nice finds...the rings really cleaned up nicely.

;) RR

Hope everything is good for you Brian.

Just think, that one ring could have been worn around a toe of some sexy chick. Hmmm...didn't I already state that? LOL

wow those rings did clean up rather nice. Good that you at least got out there for awhile, next time the gold is sure to come your way.
