What does the back of the piece on the left look like? It almost looks like a really fancy suspender clip to me.

It's imprinted from the back to front(no backing).

The item on the left looks like an Art Deco (1920's-30's) faux buckle — a pin or decorative attachment made to resemble a buckle.

Most of the brass jewelry I've seen was at one tiime gold or silver plated and over time the base metal started to deteriorate causing the plating to fall off. Nowdays a lot of costume jewelry is chrome plated instead of precious metals. Monty
