Yes I mentioned to the wife that I would like to hit the local goodwill, a little later browsing the shelfs came across the tarnished silver. Flipped over and is marked F.B Rogers silver company Taunton mass. Partially cleaned top ( inspired by the fellow forum members to hit the will and I do say I will be a frequent customer lmao .

I am sure you know but ,just in case it is silver plated, still a nice piece

that's where the newbies get burned.. we all have done it.. INTL SILVER usually = Plated very few peice with Rogers on have been Sterling in my experience

Another thing to be aware of is that precious metals are not marked with a sticker.....unless it is stamped into the metal as well. Like Creeper said, we all have gotten burned in the learning process.

If you had the insert you still could have sold it for $20-$25 but it's missing so...

I don't usually mess with silverplate but there are many silverplated items that do sell well (even Rogers), pickle castors for one, flatware sets, candelabras, tea sets (complete) and certain others. Of course they need to be clean and in great condition. I am always on the lookout for something good when I see a pile of silverplated stuff.

Dang,it goes with my silver service! Nice find though still, clean it up and put it into service.

Something I found out recently while disposing of two silver serving trays. Turned out the were fine quality, but plated, a little research found that a vast number of plated serving sets and some flatware actually use copper and brass as a base. Simply use a file to expose a small area and check, now I have something else to save for the metal yard, and they way up quickly. Purchased at the right price, they can still prove profitable.

True but scrap value would be a last resort. That's not what I was referring to in my last reply.
