Hello all, :hello:

I got this signal at a park. :icon_scratch:Great one direction half dollar signal Upper 80's and low 90's. Solid hit on my AT pro !! However there is a huge crisscross root system right over the target. I try and dig around it but it seems to be as thick as a small tree. ??? I dug down like 6 inches past the top of the root, still can't get under the root to pull out the target... :dontknow: I give up for the day and cover it up, the signal gets lost in trash. I hope to recover it tomorrow with the right tools. :headbang: Somethings telling me I need to find out what it is... :dontknow: Any advice, I sure could use it !! :notworthy: How I could get around or under this root system..
Sorry no pictures, I did not have my camera. I wish I took some photo's so you guys could see the problem. Oh well maybe next time...8-)

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Axe and chainsaw it what I am thinking. Oh wait you said "Park" ??? Mosquitos carried me away today. Good luck with that target!

The roots are as big as a small tree, maybe 6" in diameter. :icon_scratch: It would be hard to cut them out with a chainsaw let alone a drywall saw. Thanks for the idea though. :notworthy:

Got a few targets like that at the local turn-of-the-century park. I'm biding my time and keeping an eye on the weather forecast. The next time that we get a nasty winter and the trees start tipping over, you'd better race me to that park. :)

I use a little folding saw to cut limbs when I climb trees to bow hunt. They are just a few bucks at the sporting goods store and will make quick work of any root.

Tunnel in from the side,or bigger hole and a mag light.

Make friends with a beaver? :laughing7:

I've had this happen in a spot where I was digging half reales. The MD was reading dime sized object at 12" down. Dug a fairly wide hole - never found.
Was it actually inside a root? Who knows - some ya just have to let go. :)
Destroying a tree for a single coin is NOT worth it IMO - plus it is public property. Such acts only destroy this hobby.

Leave the root system. If roots are as big as a small tree, the tree itself has been here long before us and hopefully long after.
A single coin ain't worth park administrators closing more parks.
Peace

If I recover it, I will not destroy the root system. 8-) I promise you all that. :thumbsup:Roots larger around than a half dollar are major lifelines for trees and if cut can kill an old tree... :BangHead: I'm thinking all go in from the side, several feet away and dig a tunnel... After I try to push it out with a screw driver or my smaller Leache like tool or knife. :dontknow:

Thanks for the replies !!

Well, :icon_scratch:

I went back today, I dug around the first root system. ??? Only to uncover more roots, I don't think I'll be able to get this target.. :dontknow:

good for you! The coin is probably deep in one of then roots. I still know exactly where that last half reale sits unless somebody has cut through
all kinds of roots to get to it. I sure hope not but it't not worth killing a 100 year old tree. The Coin karma gods will make up for it somewhere else! :)
