The team have been saving these fields to last, as we have at least another 3 month before its cultivated & it was long Wheat Stubble (now wintered). For those that remember we had a go after harvest & I got the gold plated cross (Medieval probably) & Dad got 1 & a bit Saxon Stirrup Mounts. Its a set of fields next to the Saxon Brooch Field & where Shaun7 got his Papal Bulla

Dad was out today & Land-Mag kindly gave me lift & we went hunting together with his stunning Dog. We only had a very short window of 1.5 hours but I'm more than happy with the result & glad to get back out again.

Saxon/Viking (I think Viking due to its patina) โ€“ never seen one, but looks to be a strap/belt slide, maybe on a horse - needs research but I'm always pleased to find stuff I never seen in a book (or at least remember seeing)

Top part of a Saxon Gold Chipped Carved Pendant - circa 7th Century

Tomorrow Dad & I will start the systematic search in the next field.

I'm curious Cru, do you have to look these items up when you get home or do have all this knowledge stored up in your head from expierence and previous hunts.? I ask because I always like the fact that you add the details like that in all your posts, it makes even the most average looking item very interesting. Thanks for posting and good luck on the rest of the field.

Wasn't there also a few Saxon brooches found in the Bulla field. Or am I getting the fields mixed up :icon_scratch:

Nice finds, tomorrow should be good :icon_thumleft:

Top of my head - but from years of research & handling similar objects. Only had one other fragment of a Saxon pendant & it was nothing like this one. Any Saxon/Viking stuff is a rare find for me & therefore generates the most interest. Plus its an amazing period of impressive artwork.
