A nice afternoon in Western PA allowed me to spend some time again at my cousin's house at the back of their old farm and next to a ghost town. It was a busy day; I dug $1.39 in modern and that included 29 memorial pennies . You take the good with the bad, however, so I should mention a pair of silver Rosies in the same hole that met goal #1: silver. Next, I pursued another goal: at least $1 in face. A 1971 Kennedy half took care of that. Early in the afternoon, I searched systematically; after the Rosies and the half I started to meander. My first signal once I started that was a solid penny; imagine my surprise, and pleasure, when I discovered that my penny had a shiny reeded edge! I was even more pleased when I realized it wasn't a Rosie, or even a Merc, but a 1900 Barber dime . I would have to research the matter because I can't even remember when or where I found my last Barber. I started to search around the area and got tons of signals; almost all of them were Memorials! For a change of scenery, I moved up to the edge of the property, near the ghost town. A few weeks ago, I pulled 5 Indians in one day there, and concluded that the old inhabitants used my cousin's land for recreation or something. Back then, it was his father's land; I'm pretty sure the town disappeared about the time my cousin arrived (1940 something). Today, I added a 1923 wheat from the area. I've found over $420 in face over the years, with tons of wheats, lots of Rosies and a few Barbers. Until today, I'd never found a Tootler! This was probably part of a McDonald's Kids' Meal in the mid-1980's, and it works great after a good cleaning! Don't know when I'll get out again, but it was great to be out today.
