Well I did a door knock on Friday afternoon make contact with with a gentleman and after a small conversation he gave me permission to hunt the house I advise a gentleman that I'll be back on Sunday morning and he stated that he's taking care of his elderly mom and he won't be there Sunday but his sister will and he advised me that he would let his sister know that I'll be coming by. Why I got there this morning had a gut feeling that something wasn't right I decided to go ahead and start hunting the front yard when they female came out of the residents yelling why was I doing in there long story short apparently the gentleman did not tell his sister that I was coming over it was an awkward situation I just advised the lady that I'll go ahead and leave and sorry for scaring her I did hunt the front yard for approximately 20 minutes and found these three tags unknown what they were. lesson learned get permission from actual owner . 20171022_183445.jpg20171022_183455.jpg20171022_183505.jpg

Or just knock on the door when you show up. They would probably like to know when you come and go. If you are bothering them, they will let you know, "hey just start hunting when you show up, you don't have to let us know every time you show up". She still might have told you no, but it would not have been as near as awkward.

Those look like crematory tags

Dont feel too bad. I've been kicked off places like that. Knock and get permission, then in the middle of the hunt, the spouse comes homes and throws a fit. It happens.

Even having permission from the owner isn't always enough. I stopped by a very nice 1800s house once last summer and got permission from a very nice woman. I was just getting started when a car pulled up and a man got out and angrily asked what I thought I was doing? I said that the woman in the house gave me permission. "Like hell she did!", he said, and he went in to ask her about it (or more likely, yell at her). It was at that point that I quietly just put things away and drove off.

I think they are tags for a utility meter. Gas or electric, maybe water.

That happens....I have been on the opposite end of that. My Dad lives in a historic house. We have detected the yard over and over for years, and still find stuff. It's like our little game and anything we find goes in the "house box".

One day I showed up and a guy was detecting. I knew my dad would no way allow it. That was our place, our game to see who can find the next thing.

Anyhow, I guess he had knocked on the door and my Stepmom told him to go ahead. :BangHead: I did explain the whole thing to him and he was cool about it.

It's one of the things my dad and I challenge each other at "Who will find the next thing". And the yard has been hunted hard! We are still getting stuff every few years. When we get together and go over it...:laughing7:

Oh man! That's a bummer for sure! :dontknow:

Heck of a way to start a day, especially on 2 nice old yards. I wonder if I show up and ask permission if she'll let me hunt :)

tough luck there.. If you get permission its always best to do it right then and there..People will change there minds overnight even..

Sorry to hear about the permission Jimzz. Oh well Sh!t happens, there is always another prospective permission just one knock away. :icon_thumright:
