About a week ago I located a place in public woods, the has easy parking and many trails. I used my trusty lidar to find the site, and was shocked to see around twelve cellar holes in those woods. The next day I checked an 1850's map of the town, 8 of the cellar holes I found using lidar show up on the map, including a couple that are nearly a quarter mile of the trail. I then checked an 1890's map, and there is nothing at all. The hiking trails used to be old roads. I have been hesitant to go because the place is half an hour away, and I am almost sure that many other people have metal detected there. My biggest concern though is all the trash that is probably there. On the other hand, even if other people have metal detected, this place is huge and I doubt that they hit every cellar hole. There is also a school house and shop on the map, which makes me think that there may be some old coins there maybe. I also have to walk a mile or two to get out there. Do you think it will be worth the drive and walk out there, or be full of trash and other people's plugs?

Thanks!

I'd go for it. You never know till you try. Some of our best spots are ones we didn't expect to find much. And some are duds. Only one way to know for sure. Heck, that's half the fun anyway.

If it's really trashy, most detectorists and their dime store machines will avoid it.
My best finds come from trashy sites, I'd dive right in.
