Well this morning at 8am I meet up with Goio, McEtrac, Rootmaster, & T-Man. Man was it cold, I was the only one not wearing a Carheart body suit!!! We all had some great finds. In about 10 min into the hunt I got a shallow 2 inch nickel signal. I figured it would be a modern Jefferson but when I pulled it out of the ground I was rewarded with my oldest dug coin so far!!! It was an 1893 V-Nickel!!! All season I was lookin for one and I just got my first last Sunday, now I have 2!!! Later I got a high deep coin signal at about 7 or 8 inches. I thought it was gonna be a silver dime but when I retrieved my target I was pleasantly surprised to find an old thimble. I wiped the dirt off of it and I knew it had to be silver!!! Once I got home I cleaned out the inside and at the bottom I found that it was in fact silver, it is stamped with STERLING. I weighed it and it is 2 grams. I also got an iffy signal by an old tree, when I dug my plug it disappeared. I checked the the hole's walls with my pinpointer and it knocked some dirt loose and out popped an old marble that was about 5 or 6 inches down. So I was happy that I didn't waist my efforts for nothing. Here is the rest of my finds, not including the 2 full pouches of canslaw and wine caps... >:(

Thanks Goio, McEtrac, & T-Man for letting me and Rootmaster tag along!!!

I love digging thimbles! What's the script on it? Name or mfr? Happy V nicks to you dude!

Yo!!! That thimble sure looks better all cleaned up. Congrats on scoring silver today! That V nickel was the first good find of the day, and had me digging EVERY low tone that was anywhere close to a nickel. I must have pulled up a pouch full of of just pull tabs and pop tops. FWIW, that V nickel looks much better in person, they just don't photograph well. Out in the sun it was a copper sight to behold! Congrats on your oldest TF! Yeah, and what the hell is with all the drunkards in the park??? freaking wine and beer bottle tops were everywhere, and some deep!

I shot some video as well, but I don't think I'll be putting it together because the computer that has my video template and processing software on it is busted.

I can't believe the season is winding to an end... today was too fun!

Wow, a sterling thimble. I've never dug a thimble up yet.

Nice V nickle, only found 2 of them myself and the first was less than 1'' down on a parkway in Glenview. It was so gunked up I didn't have a clue on what it was.

Looks like you found a LOT of good stuff. Congrats on the V nickel and I just love the thimble and old keys too!

I thought it was sterling. At 1st I thought it might be aluminum, but No, too heavy. Nice collectable.
I thought you dug that V nickle deep. Only 2 inches ? Every time I dig low tones it seems I have to empty my bag of pop tops w/nothing to show for it LOL. I only dug 5 or 6 deep pop tops before I gave up on low tones today.
Love the marble too. I've got quite a collection going now,and I would give each Clad quarter I dig to have a marble in it's stead.
We'll have to do this again.Had fun

Awesome finds! I knew you weren't going to stay in sunday

The season is coming to an abrupt end before we know it, get out now before it's frozen and snowy! you had a great weekend, silver both days, oldest coin, all kinds of stuff. I would have stopped by too but I was too busy. Glad you guys had a great time. Maybe this weekend we can hit that park you talked about. Or the one you hit the other day.

Joe

Way to go bud!
Seems like every week lately your finds are getting older. The way you're going you'll be into the seated coins in a few weeks if the weather holds out.
